ZIMS Testing and Deployment Schedule
Anyone who has been involved in building something large and visionary like a new exhibit or a global zoological database knows that announcing a schedule of completion is tricky because of all the variables involved. With that in mind, below is a schedule for the completion of ZIMS.

Continuing through 2007
ISIS continues testing ZIMS reporting defects that are expected and natural at this stage of testing.

August through October 2007
“Critical Process Testing” (CPT). CGI’s team of testers will test the most common and crucial parts of ZIMS – the parts that will be used by 90% of the ISIS community 90% of the time.

Last quarter of 2007: User Acceptance Testing (UAT)
80+ UAT testers in 21 institutions will intensively test ZIMS in the “real world.” To support this immense testing effort, ISIS will have a team of 8 people at on staff. ISIS has recently added two new support staff and will add another two in the next few weeks. This team will be led by Elisabeth Hunt. Wenlei Fang leads the technical team that has been creating solutions to the many technical challenges that the much larger ZIMS application poses.

Second Quarter 2008
Seven alpha adopter institutions begin using ZIMS.

Third Quarter 2008
Fourteen beta adopter institutions begin using ZIMS.

Fourth Quarter of 2008
ZIMS begins to deploy to the ISIS global community, at the rate of about 20 institutions per month.

By end of 2009
Approximately 240 ISIS members using ZIMS.

By end of 2010
Approximately 500 ISIS members using ZIMS.

By end of 2011
Approximately 700 ISIS members using ZIMS. This total includes membership growth, which includes a focus on inviting aquariums into the ISIS global community, and continuing to grow membership in new countries. It means that over 15,000 zoological professionals will be entering data into ZIMS in nearly 80 countries.
