ZIMS Project teams

The ISIS Board of Trustees

The ISIS Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) is headed by the ISIS Board of Trustees. This group of 25 individuals help review technological aspects of ZIMS design.

The ISIS Science Advisory Committee (SAC) is also headed by the ISIS Board. This group of 12 individuals advise the ZIMS Project on issues relating to scientific research.

The ZIMS Project Manager is responsible for day-to-day project management and will act as single point of contact between ISIS and the vendor. Any change in project scope, cost or schedule requires the Project Manager to seek approval from the PSG.

The ZIMS Project is headed by a five member Project Steering Group (PSG). This group is chaired by the ISIS executive director. Its members are the chair of ISIS Technology Advisory Committee (TAC), the chair of ISIS Science Advisory Committee (SAC), the chair of International Animal Data Information Systems Committee (IADISC) and the chair of the ISIS Capital Campaign Committee. The PSG approves all major ZIMS Project decisions, resolves issues that are raised, and monitors project status.

The International Animal Data Information Systems Committee (IADISC) is a global group that represents the user community's in planning, designing, developing and deploying ZIMS. Many regional associations also have a data management committee, ADISC (Animal Data Information System Committee), which serves the user interests of each of the regional association members.

Subject Matter Experts (SMEs)  are individuals representing various institutions and specialties across the globe, such as veterinarians, curators, studbook keepers, keepers, etc. who advise ISIS and CGI on what ZIMS will need to do to meet their needs.

The ZIMS focus groups are IADISC-based groups of SMEs who help review documentation on which the ZIMS application will be built, including screen design and flow.

The ZIMS Project core team is an international team of more than 30 individual from ISIS, ZIMS software vendor CGI and ISIS member organizations who oversee project operation and assure that project moves forward. For example, the core team initiated the early adopter process.

The ZIMS Technical Design Working Group (ZTWG) was responsible for putting together a "discovery document" for the Request for Proposal (RFP) process for a ZIMS vendor. The ZTWG also helped establish many of the processes for documentation review, reviewed much of the design documentation and participated in several development sessions. This group was dissolved in November 2004. The duties of this group were then transferred to the ISIS Technical Advisory Committee (TAC).

The Project Management Office (PMO) is responsible for implementing the project management methodology, leading organizational changes, promoting a project management culture, and institutionalizing organizational processes and methodologies in improving the organization's performance.

The Request for Proposal (RFP) response evaluation committee were 22 members who reviewed all received vendor proposals for ZIMS, and chose the finalists.

The RFP vendor negotiation team consisted of six individuals that worked with final vendors to come to agreement on terms.
