ZIMS Project history
ZIMS Project mission
To develop and maintain a new and improved information system that supports a wide range of animal management and conservation activities in zoos and aquariums.
The new system will include modules for animal inventory, veterinary care, nutrition, husbandry, environmental monitoring, collection planning, and research and be designed for future expansion.
the ZIMS Project is about
global cooperation the ZIMS Project promotes sharing standardized and scientifically collected animal data globally
using information to protect valuable resources species population managers rely on pooled demographic and genetic data when making decisions that affect the lives of endangered species
knowledge-based animal welfare advances in animal husbandry and veterinary care are made with the scientific recording and analysis of observations made in zoological institutions

improvements in daily care of animals will be based on more reliable data; keepers will be empowered by knowledge to enrich animal environments
the global zoological community will have access to higher quality, more comprehensive data for endangered species programs and advanced technology by pooling resources
visitors will enjoy more accurate information about animals to educate and inspire
zoological institutions will have access to complete histories of animals that come and go from collections and access to timely data for more informed decision-making |
