Welcome to the ISIS
Zoological Information Management System (ZIMS) Project

ISIS is building the Zoological Information Management System (ZIMS) with the participation of almost 500 animal care experts from zoos, aquariums and related organizations worldwide. ISIS works closely with the International Animal Data Information Systems Committee (IADISC) on this project.

When complete, ZIMS will be a global animal management system that will enhance local care and international conservation efforts. The ZIMS Project is one of the largest, international Web-based projects of its kind. ZIMS will serve as the central location for accurate and comprehensive information on 2 million animals in more than 70 countries.

The zoological community’s collective investment in and development of ZIMS will improve animal care worldwide.

“Animal populations are at risk. We can’t allow critical data to be hidden in inaccessible systems or fragmented into multiple databases. In 10 to 20 years, the information in the ZIMS database may hold the key to survival for a species.”

-- Dr. Jeffrey Bonner, president and chief executive officer, St. Louis Zoological Park
