ISIS membership

Who can become a member of ISIS?
Zoos, aquariums, animal conservation organizations and other professionally-managed public facilities that care for captive animals are typical ISIS members. In addition, zoo and aquarium associations and associations of zoo professionals may apply for formal representation in ISIS. In limited circustances, educational facilities may become members of ISIS. (Contact ISIS - isis@isis.org; +1.651.209.9240 - if you need more information.)

What are the requirements of membership?
Membership in ISIS has three requirements:

  • Payment of annual membership fee
  • Sharing of current data about your collection in ISIS-accepted formats. (Data must be current to six (6) months to remain in good standing.)
  • Member's chief executive officer must sign the appropriate membership application and agree to abide by the requirements outlined in the ISIS Member Declaration.

Why do organizations join ISIS?
Members join ISIS to contribute and share information on 2 million animals in the care of almost 650 ISIS member institutions across the world. The ISIS network has come together to collect basic biologic information (age, sex, parentage, place of birth, circumstance of death, etc.), which members use to monitor overall population status, find appropriate unrelated new animals, identify facilities with experience in breeding and raising offspring, etc.

What types of membership are available?

Are there other ways (besides membership) to contribute to ISIS?
Yes. ISIS is currently working with almost 500 zoological experts to build the next generation of ISIS software for animal data management - the Zoological Information Management System (ZIMS). ISIS has started a capital campaign Building ZIMS: the Campaign for ISIS to support that project.
